Marine

Safely managing explosive, toxic, and environmentally damaging vapors from oil or petrochemicals in confined spaces is an ever present challenge for marine transportation.

For inland-marine and ocean-going vessels, the ongoing need for repairs, maintenance, or inspections often requires many hours or days to safely drain, purge, and gas free fuel oil or cargo tanks.  This can be particularly disruptive when unscheduled repairs are involved. In the marine transportation business, safety and time often work against each other as operators seek to improve overall efficiency by reducing the vessel downtime related to unscheduled and scheduled tank maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

Patented
System
TankSafe, when activated with NanoVapor’s patented Model ST-1000 delivery unit, reduces the amount of time spent reaching a safe LEL, increases the amount of time that VOCs stay suppressed, and produces no hazardous byproducts.
No residue
No Residue
or Cleanup
NanoVapor’s liquid suppressant leaves no detectable residue behind as only about 1 ounce of the engineered molecular suppressant is needed to gas free 100 cubic meters of tank volume.  In addition, all of our TankSafe suppressant is fully biodegradable, so there is no hazardous waste requiring any cleanup when the job is done.

Safer & Faster Purging & Gas-Freeing
We address maintenance-related disruptions at the source by more quickly reducing tank LEL to safe levels—even when fuel or heel remains in the tank—avoiding altogether the need to drain, purge, and gas free tanks before starting hot work on nearby areas.
VOC concentration is quickly suppressed to safe LEL levels that cannot ignite, while ambient oxygen levels are maintained for safe confined space entry.  Because our system eliminates flammability risk without removing oxygen, it is equivalent to purging and gas freeing at the same time.

For tank inerting, conventional processes typically work by lowering the oxygen levels in the tank.  Unfortunately, this also introduces the risk of worker unconsciousness or death due to asphyxiation. Because our suppression inerting works without removing any oxygen, it provides a safer alternative for workers when tank inerting or entry is required.
Marine
Proven
in Marine Use
We’ve adapted our suppression nanotechnology for marine use, resulting in a portable and simple to use delivery system and proprietary liquid suppressant engineered specifically for marine tanks.  The ST-1000 delivery unit can be powered using onboard compressed air, and has been successfully tested in actual marine use on both inland-marine and ocean-going vessels.  In degassing a 30,000-bbl barge, NanoVapor saved more than 50% of the time required to purge vapors to the target safe LEL level needed.  It worked even faster to purge and inert a heavy fuel oil tank on a bulk cargo vessel—safe LEL levels were quickly reached in less than 30 minutes without needing to drain any of the fuel oil or sludge that remained in the tank, and these safe levels were maintained for several hours while the nearby hot work was carried out. We can help you reach the same results.
